What is SPES?

Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) is mandated under Republic Act No. 9547 to help poor but deserving students by providing them an income through an employment in a company with at least ten (10) workers employed.

Coverage

The SPES Program is open to all students enrolled in the secondary, tertiary, vocational and technical education.

For students in the secondary level, they shall only be employed during summer and/or Christmas vacations.

For students in the tertiary, vocational and technical education, they can be employed at any time of the year.

Qualifications

  1. Must be 15-25 years old
  2. Must be enrolled during the present school year/term
  3. Parents’ combined income does not exceed the annual regional poverty threshold level for a family of six (6)
  4. Parent/s have been displaced due to business closure or work stoppage provided that he/she meets (1), (2), and (3) above

Requirements

  1. Duly filled Registration Form 01 (3 copies) with ID pictures attached and attested by the school principal or registrar
  2. Any of the following to attest his/her age:
      – Birth/Baptismal Certificate
      – Form 138 where age is specified
      – Joint affidavit of two disinterested parties pertaining to the age of student
  3. Any of the following to attest the student’s rating:
      – Form 138 (High School Report Card)
      – Certification by Registrar that the student has passing rates
      – Certified True Copy of the Student’s Class Card
  4. Latest Income Tax Return of the parents or a certification from the employer that the parent of the applicant is to be displaced or has been displaced

Where to Apply?

  1. Students may apply at any of the following DOLE Regional/Provincial Office, Public Employment Service Office (PESO) or other deputized offices.
  2. Employers who want to hire students may signify their intention by signing a Pledge of Commitment and submit it to the nearest DOLE Regional Office/PESO
